Bring what you know. Credit the people who made it. Leave room for what we haven’t figured out yet.

Previous bookmarks

Individual-work bookmarks have been retired. Previous bookmarks remain private, not claims of ownership or permission to reuse the artwork or photographs. You can remove them in Previous bookmarks. A work’s public availability may change. Bookmarks do not publish a selection or subscribe you to notifications.

The archive

Death Before Melt is operated by Two Pizzas LLC. It documents precious metal art, its makers and the evidence around their work. The archive is not a marketplace, appraisal, authenticity certificate or guarantee of ownership. A record can be incomplete or mistaken; tell us when something needs correcting.

The archive is shared as is. Check anything that matters before you rely on it: to the extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for decisions, purchases or sales made on the strength of a record.

Browsing does not require an account. To create an account or contribute, you must be at least 13 and meet any higher minimum age that applies where you live. If you are not legally an adult, review these terms with a parent or guardian and have their permission to participate. We do not offer an under-13 account or parental-consent service.

Keep your sign-in secure and do not use someone else’s account or impersonate a maker or collector.

Contribute what you can stand behind

Distinguish what you know from what you suspect. Mention your sources when you can, such as a link in your note to the editor. Upload photographs only if you took them or have permission to share them for DBM’s public archive once accepted. Choosing photos while signed in, or continuing with an account after selecting them, confirms this for every photograph you add. If you found a photograph online or are unsure about permission, paste the page’s link in your note instead. A link does not grant permission to reuse a photograph. Do not include private messages, receipts, addresses or other people’s personal information without appropriate permission.

Do not send unlawful material, harassment, spam, malicious files or misleading attribution. We may decline a submission, remove material or restrict access to protect contributors, makers and the archive.

Ownership stays with its owner

Contributing does not transfer ownership. Rights remain with you or the original rights holder. By saving and sending materials, you confirm that you can give Two Pizzas LLC non-exclusive permission to store, copy and process them for private review and operation of the archive, using the service providers described in our privacy notice. Sending a link does not grant rights in material on the linked page.

Sending a contribution permits editors to incorporate accepted piece details, and the sources and quotations that support them, into public records. Your account and contact details are not published with them. Details may be corrected, summarized or combined with other sources without claiming you endorsed the resulting record.

Gallery photos are for the public archive and for sharing it. When you save them under the public-archive notice, you grant DBM permission, once you send the contribution and it is accepted, to resize, crop, convert and display them on Death Before Melt, and to use them to show and promote Death Before Melt: in our own social media posts, newsletters and ads, such as a preview of a piece or a featured shot. You must own the necessary rights or have authority to give this permission. Saving a draft alone never makes it public. Published contributor photographs are credited as a community contribution, on the site and wherever else the format allows. This is not permission to sell the photographs, license them to anyone else, put them on merchandise, or transfer their ownership. Permission to show a photograph does not transfer rights in the artwork pictured.

A photograph attached to a source, such as a certificate, is uploaded under the same permission but stays private unless an editor records permission to display it. Attaching it does not establish the source’s authenticity. You can delete it from a draft before you send it.

AI that helps identify pieces

We want anyone to be able to add a photo of a piece and have the archive recognize it. To build that, we use accepted photographs and details to help identify pieces and makers: matching a new photo against the archive, and building and improving Death Before Melt’s own identification tools, including AI models.

We may send a photo you add to an AI service to suggest its details. The service processes it for us and isn’t allowed to train its own models on it. AI suggestions are only suggestions: you or an editor check them before anything is recorded.

We never sell or license your photographs to others to train their AI, and never use them to generate images of artwork. To keep your photographs out of our identification tools, email andrey@twopizzas.dev, and we’ll leave them out from then on.

Review, credit and removal

Saving a draft does not publish it, and sending a contribution publishes it only once it is accepted. Editors review each suggested change and may accept it, decline it with a reason or publish eligible material. We do not promise publication or a particular review time. Contributions are not credited to you by name. A verified maker account publishes details and photographs of its own pieces directly, credited to the maker. We may also accept contributions automatically from contributors we trust. Automatic acceptance has the same effect as an editor’s, and editors may still correct, withdraw or remove what was accepted at any time.

To request removal, change a credit or withdraw photo-display permission, email andrey@twopizzas.dev with the relevant page or submission. Requests are handled manually. Removing a public copy does not automatically erase private records or backups; our privacy notice explains retention and deletion requests. When you withdraw permission for a photograph, we take it off the site, out of any ads that are running and out of new posts, and on request we delete our earlier posts that show it where we can. We cannot recall copies already saved or shared by others.

Respect the work

Public display is not a general reuse license. Obtain the appropriate permission before reusing photographs, artwork or protected text from the archive. Linking to a work’s page is welcome. If something is wrongly attributed or you have another concern, contact us with the specific page. Copyright complaints follow the process below.

We will date changes to these terms and seek fresh permission if we propose a materially different use of contributed photographs. Nothing here removes rights you have under applicable law.

The site uses open-source software, including libheif (LGPL-3.0, through heic-to) to convert HEIC photos to JPEG in your browser. Its source is at github.com/strukturag/libheif.

Copyright complaints

If you believe material on Death Before Melt infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent, Two Pizzas LLC, at andrey@twopizzas.dev. Include:

  • the work you believe is infringed;
  • the page or photograph on Death Before Melt, with its link;
  • your name, address, phone number and email;
  • a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent or the law;
  • a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you own the copyright or are authorized to act for its owner;
  • your physical or electronic signature.

We remove or disable the material and tell the person who added it. If they believe it was removed by mistake, they can send a counter-notice identifying the material and stating, under penalty of perjury, that it was removed by mistake, with their name, address and phone number, their consent to the federal court for their district (or, outside the US, wherever we can be found) and their agreement to accept service from the person who complained. We then restore it in 10 to 14 business days, unless the complainant tells us they’ve gone to court. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
